Wes Andersonin ohjaama The Grand Budapest Hotel on hauska, kaunis, villi ja vinoutunut seikkailudraama, joka perustuu löyhästi itävaltalaisen Stefan Zweigin kertomuksiin. The Grand Budapest Hotel sijaitsee kuvitteellisessa, puolalaisesta vodkasta nimensä saaneessa Zubrowkan alppivaltiossa. Tarina alkaa vuodesta 1968, jolloin nuori kirjailija tapaa vierailullaan kuuluisassa Grand Budapest -hotellissa sen mystisen omistajan, Zero Moustafan. Moustafa kertoo koko huikean elämäntarinansa sekä tarinan hotellin kultavuosista suurten sotien välillä. Kertomus nivoutuu tiiviisti hotellin legendaarisen portieerin ja apupoikana aloittaneen, Moustafan siipiensä alle ottaneen, Gustave H:n ympärille. Gustave ja nuori Zero kokevat maailmansotien välissä seikkailuja, joista ei puutu draamaa, romantiikkaa tai jännitystä. Keskiöön nousee Gustaven rakastajiin kuuluneen Madame D:n lempiportieerilleen testamenttaama arvomaalaus, jonka tavoittelu vie kaksikon hurjalle karkumatkalle läpi Alppien.
